    The first gallery of the museum presents an interesting ensemble of
    picturesque boxes from a bygone era of glory and splendor for the
    cigar industry in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida. During the time span
    from 1886 with the opening of the first cigar factory, to the 1930's,
    workers from Spain and Cuba arrived to the area to work the craft of
    cigar making.  They brought with them their language centuries after
    the Spaniards first set feet in "La Florida”.

    Along with those workers also came laborers from Italy and the island
    of Sicily. Descendants of those Sicilians that I have met locally state
    that they spoke the "Ybor City Sicilian" dialect. Interestingly, this
    would be a local brew of the Sicilian dialect (itself a mix of the Arabic,
    Greek and Italian languages) with Spanish.
    When we think of Spanish, we come to think of words and the resulting written and
    spoken language. Nonetheless, there is more to Spanish than the "lingua" itself. There
    is the Spanish art.

    This gallery showcases the genius rendition of masters of the canvas throughout the
    Spanish speaking world. The skillful use of light, color and forms immortalized in their
    legacies stamps a unique visual "accent" to the "Español" and represents a Spanish
    class by itself.
